A class composite is a print that features a student's photo alongside their peers within their grade, school, or program.
Photographers have two different options for creating class composites.
Option 1: We recommend creating personalized class composite designs outside our system, uploading them into School Print ROES, and selecting the appropriate print size. Photographers can print their designs on either Lustre or Glossy photo paper. Uploading a premade composite will allow complete customization capabilities, as most editing programs have more design options outside the School Prints ROES editing space. Photographers should investigate companies that offer template designs or design services since we currently do not provide that option.
Option 2: Photographers can use the School Prints ROES montage feature for the la carte prints to design basic layouts of image boxes to create a class composite. Setting up image boxes does involve some math and print orientation specifications.
First, consider what print size to order. Most photographers will print class composites in sizes 8x10, 11x14, or 16x20. The number of image boxes you'd like to include on the print will help determine the best print size, especially if you plan to add a large group image to the center of the composite.
When setting up the layout for the composite, the default orientation is a portrait, and the fields will always assume this orientation. When in portrait orientation, the fields denote the following information:
All field measurements are in inches to match the measurements of our offered sizes.
-
Images:
- Across: the number of columns of images you’d like.
- Down: the number of rows of images you’d like.
-
Padding:
- Width: the space between the sides of the image boxes.
- Height: the space between the top/bottom of the image boxes.
- Top, Bottom, Left, and Right: the border width on the outside edge.
Below is an example of these fields filled in for a portrait-oriented composite:
Additionally, you can rotate your print template if you need your composite in the landscape orientation. Then, the fields will be as follows:
-
Images:
- Across: the number of rows of images you’d like.
- Down: the number of columns of images you’d like.
-
Padding:
- Width: the space between the top/bottom of the image boxes.
- Height: the space between the sides of the image boxes.
- Top, Bottom, Left, and Right: the border width on the outside edge. Top/Bottom for the sides, and Left/Right for the top and bottom.
When designing the layout for the composite, extra space can be left at the top or bottom to add a text box. The additional space will allow you to label the composite for the assigned school, class, program, or group. To do so, add the space needed for the text box to the top or bottom measurement of the layout.
Once you've filled in each field, click the "Create New Montage" button, and image boxes will appear on the print. Next, drag and drop your image files into the new image boxes.
Additionally, to complete the composite as needed, you can add text boxes using the "Draw Text Tool" in the upper left corner of the editing space.
